Pablo Reboiro: 'Grateful for the wonderful time in the Netherlands'
What started as an internship eventually became a long-term collaboration of five years. Pablo, who lives in Spain: “I am grateful that I have been given so many opportunities, that I have been able to discover the world and have made friends for life.”

Hobby of breeding
Pablo started at Diamond Genetics as a 22-year-old with an internship for the HAS in Dronten. 'That was a three-month internship. I then started at Diamond Genetics.' Pablo grew up on a dairy farm in Spain and was interested in breeding. 'You can safely say that breeding was my hobby.' The young student was therefore in the right place at the internationally operating Diamond Genetics with internationally appealing genetics. 'I immediately clicked with Jan de Vries and also with Arjan van der Vlis. I have been given many opportunities to develop in breeding.'

Flying all over the world
Both sides liked it so much that after graduating, Pablo went to work at AI Total, which was then still at the beginning of a great international expansion. “I had South America in my package,” says Pablo, who, in addition to Spanish, also speaks Portuguese, English and a little Dutch. 'That's how I ended up in countries like Mexico and Chile. We discovered the Spanish-speaking countries together.' Later in his career, Pablo also traveled to Asia and Europe for work. 'I visited many countries in the world.' Pablo never got bored with traveling. 'I think I spent half of my time abroad, it was the best time of my life. It is the best decision and the most beautiful experience of my life.' And that also applied to his time in Zwolle, where he lived after his studies. “I was alone and had my first job, it was an unforgettable good time.”

Working at a competitor
After living in the Netherlands for five years, Pablo longed to return to his motherland. 'And I was immediately offered a job there.' He returned in 2018 and has now been living in Spain for several years and - how could it be otherwise - he also works in cattle improvement there. At the American AI organization ABS to see exactly. “I actually work for the competition now,” Pablo says, laughing. “I support the ABS sellers in Spain who visit dairy farmers to sell semen.”

Especially sexed semen
In his work he notices a trend whose beginnings he witnessed in the Netherlands. 'In fact, all the semen we sell is sexed semen, and the rest of the inseminations are carried out with semen from beef bulls.' His work at ABS is no obstacle to maintaining full contact with his former colleagues from the Netherlands. 'I am still in contact with Jan and Arjan often, it is a friendship that will last forever. I am grateful for the wonderful time I had in the Netherlands.'
